Among the must-attend educational sessions: a discussion with Google representatives on ways to reach customers at the digital shelf; an Entrepreneur magazine talk on advanced social media tactics; and the keynote presentation by Bridget Brennan, author of “Why She Buys: the New Strategy for Reaching the World’s Most Powerful Consumers.” The event is being organized by New Hope Natural Media, a division of Penton Media, which hosted its first Natural Products Expo West in 1981 and attracted a modest 3,000 attendees and 234 booths. Last year, the event boated more than 3,000 booths alone, with 1,798 exhibiting companies representing 97 countries. With interest in the natural and organic products industry continuing to soar, technology will be a big focus at this year’s show. Attendees will have the option to enhance their experience by downloading an Expo West iPhone app from Apple’s App Store. "Natural Products Expo West is always looking for ways to improve our event through technology," said Adam Andersen, show manager. "This year we've added matchmaking functionality to our website to better connect attendees and exhibitors and are proud to offer an iPhone app to help attendees navigate the show." In addition to the thousands of product launches, Jillian Michaels, star of “The Biggest Loser” and a celebrity spokeswoman for Turtle Mountain’s So Delicious line, will be in attendance. Other industry influencers expected to attend include: Alex Bogusky, creative insurgent for the FearLess Cottage; Walter Robb, Co-CEO of Whole Foods Market; and Gary Hirschberg, CEO of Stonyfield Farm.
