![]() Phone: 949.951.MAMA (6262) Lunch served: 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Cost: $20-$35 Nestled in Foothill Ranch, Inka Mama’s serves fine Peruvian food catering to all desires. My second time to a busy Peruvian restaurant, I still wasn’t sure what all the fuss was about. And who would have thought about having pasta at a place other than an Italian restaurant? All my questions were answered. Appetizers include Calamari Frito, chicken tamal, Aguadito de Pollo (chicken soup with rice, vegetables and cilantro juice) and Salpicon de Camarones (seasoned shrimp mixed with lettuce, onions and potatoes tossed in lime/vinaigrette dressing). There are a variety of chicken, beef, seafood and vegetarian entrees ranging from Arroz con Pollo (chicken stew with a cilantro-based rice, carrots and peas, with a touch of Peruvian beer); seasoned top sirloin steak with sautéed onions, yellow chilies and served with rice; fried rice with fish, calamari, shrimp, scrambled eggs and green onions; and Ajiaco de Vegetales (vegetables and potatoes in Mama’s spicy garlic-chili sauce topped with cilantro and served with rice). Tallarin Verde con Pollo Apanado, which is a pan-fried chicken breast served atop spaghetti in a spicy spinach and basil sauce, is creamy, not too rich, and a perfect pair. While Saltado de Vegetales (veggies and rice), seasoned and sautéed with onions, tomatoes and cilantro, is a dish acceptable to any palate. A must-have: Chicha Morada - Peruvian corn and fruit punch – that is sweet and spicy, as well as the Peruvian cookies that are two shortbread circles sandwiching smooth caramel. Yum. OCM |
