Inka Mama's

Enjoy a delectable variety of Peruvian dishes without breaking the bank.

by Ashley EliotPublished: October 01, 2008

Orange County is known for having a broad blend of cultures, and that fosters a diverse palate of tastes. Which is great, if you’re craving amazing Peruvian cuisine, for example. The family-owned Inka Mama’s brings Peruvian cuisine and culture to Lake Forest and Aliso Viejo. And lunch is a perfect time to experiment – the restaurant serves midday specials from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

To start off a recent lunch, my colleague and I dug into the empanadas – a serving of seasoned beef baked in a breaded shell. The portions are fairly large, so we tried hard not to overindulge with the empanadas and complimentary bread. If you’re less daring when it comes to trying a new dish, then you might try the Pollo Apanado, which is a lightly breaded garlic chicken breast pan-fried, and served with salad and white rice.

If you want to spice things up, go for the classic dish of Peru called the Lomo Saltado, which is seasoned beef sautéed with onions, tomatoes, French-cut potatoes and a side of rice. But there are a number of other options for seafood and vegetarian fans, in addition to the carnivores.

To top off the experience: Inka Kolas and the Colossus of desserts – the Alfajore Helado, a chocolate- covered cookie with lucuma (made with fresh fruit) or vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and a cherry, all drizzled with chocolate syrup. Salut!
