When Steve and Alexis Schulze started Nékter Juice Bar two years ago, they didn’t set out to be the juice version of Starbucks. However, they could be headed toward the success of the coffee chain. Frustrated by a lack of healthy, fresh juices and smoothies, the couple decided to produce their own juice line.
   
Soon after opening their first store, customers commented that they’d replaced their morning coffee with Nékter juices. Many had lost weight by incorporating lifestyle changes that included Nékter juices.

“I think we’re going to be the Starbucks of juices,” Alexis said to her husband.

“We’ve made juicing available to the masses,” Steve says. “Most people are used to drinking wheat grass and choking it down. We have all the elements of the fruits and veggies, and it tastes good as well. Most people are surprised to find out that kale, parsley and spinach could be made into a tasty drink.”

Nékter’s raw-nut milk smoothies, gluten-free smoothies and vegan snacks are all healthy, Steve says. He lost 20 pounds by drinking his own concoctions.
   
The most popular offering is Nékter’s signature cleanse, a one- to five-day detox program. The juices provide 15 pounds of locally grown fruit and vegetables daily.

“Nothing is processed,” Steve says. “It’s the second generation of juicing.”

With locations in Costa Mesa, Corona Del Mar, Long Beach, Newport Beach and Dana Point – plus another soon to open in Santa Monica and in LA Fitness gyms – Nékter is well on its way to creating its own juice-based success.
