![]() Editor-in-chief Search Engine Land; Marketing Land, Newport Beach Hot factor: A pioneer in Internet exploration Courage, vision and intelligence abound in Westminster native Danny Sullivan. Nicknamed the “founding father” of the Internet search industry, Danny has become a leader in the field of Search Engine Optimization (SEO). As a tech writer for the Orange County Register, Danny got a glimpse of the World Wide Web for the first time at a conference in the early 1990s, and he instinctually knew it was going to change the way the publishing industry functioned. He began to study the way search engines categorize their information. At a time when most people were setting up their first email accounts, Danny left his job at the Register to write “A Webmaster’s Guide To Search Engines” and create his own website, Search Engine Watch, which became a must-read for anyone working in the technology field. Through his website, book and speaking engagements, he became the leading voice of that industry, garnering praise from top technology leaders like Tim Mayer of Yahoo!, who has called him the “most authoritative source on search.” In 1996 Danny sold his website for an undisclosed amount to Jupitermedia. He stayed on at Search Engine Watch as editor-in-chief until it was sold in 2006 to Incisive Media for $43 million. Today Danny lives in Newport Beach with his family and is editor-in-chief of the website Search Engine Land, which covers news about Google, Yahoo, Social Media, Search Engine Marketing and Search Engine Optimization. “Back when I started there were no manuals or guides on this stuff,” says Danny. “To me it was just an opportunity for me to tell a great story.” With more than 2.5 million page views per month, Danny’s coverage and insight into the technology industry is a story that doesn’t seem to be ending anytime soon.
